Stallion Stakes

Goals

• Promote the reining horse industry 
• Sponsor a top level 3 year old futurity & 4 year old derby event for open and non pro riders
• Provide exposure of top stallions to the Northwest U.S./Western Canada reining community

Enrollment

• Donate a breeding that sells through the MRHA Stallion Stakes auction
• Direct nomination by donating to MRHA one-half (½) of the current year total breeding fee or one-half (½) of the most recent total breeding fee for gelded or deceased stallions
• Direct enrollment can be paid by persons other than the stallion owner 
• Direct enrollment does not include a breeding to the stallion 

Eligibility

Purchasing a breeding makes offspring eligible for this year's Category 6 classes at the Big Sky Reining Classic: 
• 2026 Stallion Stakes 3-year-old Futurity 
• 2026 Stallion Stakes 4-year-old Derby

And when the foals resulting from this breeding season are 3 and 4 years old: 
• 2030 Stallion Stakes 3-year-old Futurity 
• 2031 Stallion Stakes 4-year-old Derby

Buy-in eligibility also applies by paying 50% of the current year's advertised stud fee (less chute/booking fee)

Use of Auction & Enrollment Income

Use of Auction and Enrollment Income: 
• Added money for open and non pro futurities and 4-year-old derby 
• 10% of added money paid back to owners of the sires of horses that win the 2026 3-year-old futurity / 4-year-old derby classes 
• 10% of added money paid back to breeder of horses that win the 2026 3-year-old futurity / 4-year-old derby classes if breeding was bought through the auction
• Our goal is to fundraise enough money to be able to add Level 2 Stallion Stakes classes in the next 2 years

• 10% of added money paid back to owners of the sires of horses that win the 3 yo futurity / 4 yo derby classes
• 10% of added money will be paid to the breeder of the winning horse, when the breeding was purchased through the MRHA Stallion Stakes Auction.
  

Stallion Stakes Futurity Part of Big Sky Classic

• Owners who purchase a breeding through the Stallion Stakes get a 20% discount on the Stallion Stakes class entry fee for the horse produced from the auction breeding. 
  
•  MRHA Stallion Stakes 3 yo Futurity/ 4 yo Derby classes are part of the NRHA-approved Big Sky Reining Classic 
  
•  Held at Majestic Valley Arena in Kalispell, Montana in late summer 
• One of the largest reining shows in Northwest U.S. and Western Canada

Important Dates 
• Auction starts January 26, 2026 and closes February 9, 2026 
• Stallions that do not sell in live online auction remain available on a “buy now” basis through March 15, 2026 at the minimum bid (will be relisted in a buy-now auction)
• We are excited to announce that our tentative dates for Big Sky Reining Classic 2026 will be August 19-22nd at the Majestic Valley Arena in Kalispell, Montana

Winning bidders are responsible to pay to stallion owner any additional fees normally charged, including the higher of booking or chute fee (but not both), shipping costs, and mare care (see individual stallion listings for prices) unless otherwise stated.

ALL Top Bidders must confirm payment method within 48 hours and will be given a week to have their bid paid to the MRHA. If there has been no payment after the seven days it will automatically go to the next highest bidder.
